Under Microscope

It's another world under the microscope.

The housefly has a set of membranous wings that are mostly translucent with a yellow tinge close to their base. They show many spikes to improve the aerodynamics of the wings and the body of the fly. The colorful locations on the images are due to diffraction and is not related to absorption of light at certain wavelengths. The colorful wings of flies in this respect are more like the rainbow phenomena on soap bubbles.
